Reflections
Short reflections on how Islam touches life, marriage, economy, health, and meaning.
Why am I here? Islam's answer to purpose.
philosophyIslam answers the oldest human question simply: you are here to know Allah, to worship Him, and to walk gently through the world doing good. Worship is not just prayer — it's the way you eat, work, love your family, treat strangers. The whole of life can become an act of devotion when the intention is right.
- 📖 Quran 51:56 — 'I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.'
Money, work, and riba (interest)
economyIslam treats wealth as a trust. Earn honestly, spend modestly, give some away. Riba — interest on lending — is forbidden because it makes money breed money without real production or risk-sharing. Islamic economics asks: who is bearing the risk? who is doing the work? who is being squeezed? Halal alternatives exist for mortgages and business in the UK — search for 'Islamic mortgages UK' or contact Al Rayan Bank or Gatehouse Bank for guidance.
- 📖 Quran 2:275 — 'Allah has permitted trade and forbidden riba.'
Marriage as mercy and tranquillity
marriageThe Quran calls marriage a sign — a place of love (mawaddah) and mercy (rahmah). Both spouses have rights and duties to each other. The Prophet ﷺ said the best of you are the best to their families. Marriage in Islam is a partnership of two souls walking towards Allah together, not a transaction or a hierarchy of fear.
- 📖 Quran 30:21 — 'And of His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may find tranquillity in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy.'
Your body is a trust (amanah)
healthThe Prophet ﷺ said your body has a right over you. Sleep, eat moderately, move, take care of your mental health. Islam does not encourage extreme self-denial — fill the stomach a third with food, a third with drink, leave a third for breath. Look after the body that Allah trusted to you.
📜 Bukhari & Muslim — 'Your body has a right over you.'
Sabr — the long game
lifeSabr is not gritted teeth. It's a steady inner posture — accepting what you cannot change, working on what you can, and trusting Allah with the rest. The Quran pairs patience with prayer dozens of times. When life is hard, these are the two anchors.
- 📖 Quran 2:153 — 'O you who believe, seek help in patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.'
Parents — the closest gate to Paradise
lifeAfter Tawhid, the Quran mentions kindness to parents more than almost anything else. A small word, a phone call, a visit — these are not minor good deeds. They are central to your faith.
- 📖 Quran 17:23 — 'Your Lord has decreed: worship none but Him, and be kind to your parents.'
Neighbours — even if they don't share your faith
lifeIslam takes neighbours seriously. The Prophet ﷺ said the angel Jibreel kept reminding him about neighbours' rights so much he thought they would inherit. This includes the neighbour next door, the colleague at the next desk, the family across the street.

When you have doubts
philosophyDoubt is not the opposite of faith — it can be the doorway. Many companions and scholars passed through hard questions. Sit with them. Ask. Read. Speak with a wise imam who won't shame you. Faith that has examined itself is steadier than faith that has only repeated itself.
