Waking up
Sahih al-BukhariSay this when you wake up — gratitude for another day.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdu lillahi alladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhi an-nushur
ENAll praise is due to Allah who gave us life after taking it from us, and to Him is the resurrection.
Going to sleep
Sahih al-BukhariSay before sleeping — entrust your soul to Allah.
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya
ENIn Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
Before eating
Sunan Abu DawudSay before every meal.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Bismillah
ENIn the name of Allah.
After eating
Sunan Abu DawudGratitude after a meal.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Alhamdu lillahi alladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
ENPraise be to Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any might or power on my part.
Leaving the house
Sunan Abu DawudSay as you step out of the door.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'ala Allah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
ENIn the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no power or strength except with Allah.
When anxious or worried
Sahih al-BukhariWhen the heart feels heavy.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wa al-hazan, wa al-'ajzi wa al-kasal, wa al-bukhli wa al-jubn, wa dala'i ad-dayn wa ghalabati ar-rijal
ENO Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debt and being overpowered by others.
Travelling
Quran 43:13–14When starting a journey.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
Subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun
ENGlory to Him who has subjected this to us, we could not have done it ourselves; indeed to our Lord we shall return.
When it rains

اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
Allahumma sayyiban nafi'an
ENO Allah, make it a beneficial rain.
Ayat al-Kursi (the Throne Verse)
Quran 2:255Recite after each prayer and before sleep — protection.
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ
Allahu la ilaha illa huwa al-hayyu al-qayyum, la ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm, lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard…
ENAllah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth…
