عَبَسَوَتَوَلَّىٰٓ١
ENThe Prophet frowned and turned away
- 2
أَنجَآءَهُٱلْأَعْمَىٰ٢
ENBecause there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].
- 3
وَمَايُدْرِيكَلَعَلَّهُۥيَزَّكَّىٰٓ٣
ENBut what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified
- 4
أَوْيَذَّكَّرُفَتَنفَعَهُٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ٤
ENOr be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
- 5
أَمَّامَنِٱسْتَغْنَىٰ٥
ENAs for he who thinks himself without need,
- 6
فَأَنتَلَهُۥتَصَدَّىٰ٦
ENTo him you give attention.
- 7
وَمَاعَلَيْكَأَلَّايَزَّكَّىٰ٧
ENAnd not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.
- 8
وَأَمَّامَنجَآءَكَيَسْعَىٰ٨
ENBut as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
- 9
وَهُوَيَخْشَىٰ٩
ENWhile he fears [Allah],
- 10
فَأَنتَعَنْهُتَلَهَّىٰ١٠
ENFrom him you are distracted.
- 11
كَلَّآإِنَّهَاتَذْكِرَةٌۭ١١
ENNo! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;
- 12
فَمَنشَآءَذَكَرَهُۥ١٢
ENSo whoever wills may remember it.
- 13
فِىصُحُفٍۢمُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ١٣
EN[It is recorded] in honored sheets,
- 14
مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢمُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ١٤
ENExalted and purified,
- 15
بِأَيْدِىسَفَرَةٍۢ١٥
EN[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,
- 16
كِرَامٍۭبَرَرَةٍۢ١٦
ENNoble and dutiful.
- 17
قُتِلَٱلْإِنسَـٰنُمَآأَكْفَرَهُۥ١٧
ENCursed is man; how disbelieving is he.
- 18
مِنْأَىِّشَىْءٍخَلَقَهُۥ١٨
ENFrom what substance did He create him?
- 19
مِننُّطْفَةٍخَلَقَهُۥفَقَدَّرَهُۥ١٩
ENFrom a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;
- 20
ثُمَّٱلسَّبِيلَيَسَّرَهُۥ٢٠
ENThen He eased the way for him;
- 21
ثُمَّأَمَاتَهُۥفَأَقْبَرَهُۥ٢١
ENThen He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
- 22
ثُمَّإِذَاشَآءَأَنشَرَهُۥ٢٢
ENThen when He wills, He will resurrect him.
- 23
كَلَّالَمَّايَقْضِمَآأَمَرَهُۥ٢٣
ENNo! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
- 24
فَلْيَنظُرِٱلْإِنسَـٰنُإِلَىٰطَعَامِهِۦٓ٢٤
ENThen let mankind look at his food -
- 25
اَنَّاصَبَبْنَاٱلْمَآءَصَبًّۭا٢٥
ENHow We poured down water in torrents,
- 26
ثُمَّشَقَقْنَاٱلْأَرْضَشَقًّۭا٢٦
ENThen We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
- 27
فَأَنۢبَتْنَافِيهَاحَبًّۭا٢٧
ENAnd caused to grow within it grain
- 28
وَعِنَبًۭاوَقَضْبًۭا٢٨
ENAnd grapes and herbage
- 29
وَزَيْتُونًۭاوَنَخْلًۭا٢٩
ENAnd olive and palm trees
- 30
وَحَدَآئِقَغُلْبًۭا٣٠
ENAnd gardens of dense shrubbery
- 31
وَفَـٰكِهَةًۭوَأَبًّۭا٣١
ENAnd fruit and grass -
- 32
مَّتَـٰعًۭالَّكُمْوَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ٣٢
EN[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.
- 33
فَإِذَاجَآءَتِٱلصَّآخَّةُ٣٣
ENBut when there comes the Deafening Blast
- 34
يَوْمَيَفِرُّٱلْمَرْءُمِنْأَخِيهِ٣٤
ENOn the Day a man will flee from his brother
- 35
وَأُمِّهِۦوَأَبِيهِ٣٥
ENAnd his mother and his father
- 36
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦوَبَنِيهِ٣٦
ENAnd his wife and his children,
- 37
لِكُلِّٱمْرِئٍۢمِّنْهُمْيَوْمَئِذٍۢشَأْنٌۭيُغْنِيهِ٣٧
ENFor every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.
- 38
وُجُوهٌۭيَوْمَئِذٍۢمُّسْفِرَةٌۭ٣٨
EN[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -
- 39
ضَاحِكَةٌۭمُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ٣٩
ENLaughing, rejoicing at good news.
- 40
وَوُجُوهٌۭيَوْمَئِذٍعَلَيْهَاغَبَرَةٌۭ٤٠
ENAnd [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.

تَرْهَقُهَاقَتَرَةٌ٤١
ENBlackness will cover them.
- 42
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَهُمُٱلْكَفَرَةُٱلْفَجَرَةُ٤٢
ENThose are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
